Julia Smith expands ethical range for Topshop and the high street

‘Julia Smith Made in Africa' supports lives in Ghana through the vision of Mrs. Marian Essel, a highly skilled batik printer from Ghana, West Africa. Having worked for the Global Mamas in Cape Coast, Marian and Julia Smith have now formed a co-operative in the suburbs of Accra, Ghana's capital city, offering employment opportunities to a struggling community. Marian uses the proceeds of her work to employ disadvantaged adults as well as sponsoring children so that they can go to school and be offered the chance to a good, educated start in their lives.

Julia Smith initially worked with Marian in December 2006 on a collaboration with Global Mamas and Topshop. Since then Julia has commissioned Marian to hand print cotton linings for her mainline fashion label ‘Julia Smith'.

In 2008 Julia reunited with Topshop and decided to launch ‘Julia Smith Made in Africa' exclusively for Topshop in Spring/Summer 2009. This line was such a success that Julia has expanded the range and will now be selling in various shops and boutiques around the country.
