In 2008 Julia formed a new collaboration with Topshop and Marian to create ‘Julia Smith Made in Africa for Topshop' - a capsule collection of dresses both hand printed and produced in Ghana. Having worked for the Global Mamas in Cape Coast, Julia Smith and Marian have now formed a co-operative in the suburbs of Accra, Ghana's capital city, offering employment opportunities to a struggling community. Marian uses the proceeds of her work to employ disadvantaged adults aswell as sponsoring children so that they can go to school and be offered the chance to a good, educated start in their lives.
Julia Smith initially worked with Marian in December 2006 on a collaboration with Global Mamas and Topshop. Since then they have continued to work together on Julia's mainline fashion label ‘Julia Smith' in which Marian hand prints the cotton linings.
The dresses will be on sale in Topshop's London flagship store in Oxford Street in March 2009.
